Good Practices

1, 3-Dichloropropene (stand alone)

1. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE KEY CROPS

The application of 1,3-D alone is limited to conditions where only nematodes (all phytopathogenic species) are the sole phytopathological problem. Indeed, 1,3-D is ineffective on other soil pathogens (I.e. Fungi and weeds), so it is not considered by itself an alternative to MB in key crops. Nevertheless its use as stand-alone is recommended when combined with grafted plants that broaden the effectiveness of the strategy against soilborne fungi. On grafted tomatoes, 1,3 D can be considered as a MB alternative particularly for transplants carried out at the end of summer season, being able to easily limit the nematode attacks during the cropping season (autumn-spring season).

2. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR OTHER CROPS

When the problem is mainly caused by nematodes, 1,3D alone could be used for vegetables, ornamental, woody, and industrial crops, due to its broad spectrum of action on the phytopathogenic species. The recommendations for its use depend on the mixture and the system of application.
